Ophthalmology

An ophthalmologist is a specialist in medical and surgical eye disease. Their credentials include a doctorate degree in medicine, followed by an additional four years of Ophthalmology residency training. Additional training may be sought through a fellowship in a particular specialty of eye pathology. Ophthalmologists are allowed to medically treat eye disease, prescribe glasses or contact lenses, implement laser therapy, and perform surgery when needed. Ophthalmologists may participate in academic research on the diagnosis and treatment for eye disorders

A partial list of the most common diseases diagnosed and treated by Ophthalmologists include:

  • Refractive error including near-sightedness, far-sightedness, etc.
  • Cataract
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular degeneration
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Dry eyes
  • Strabismus (misalignment/deviation of eyes)
  • Proptosis (bulged eyes)
  • Excessive tearing (nasolacrimal duct obstruction)
  • Uveitis
  • Eye tumors

2⁃ Please indicate the questions you like addressed regarding this problem

3- Please provide us with any available reports from your treating physician that include:

⁃ Brief medical / surgical history
⁃ Your current medical problem and/or treatment plan

4- Please provide us with any available reports of :

⁃ Lab results from blood tests such as CBC, CMP.
⁃ Radiographic data such as X-rays, CT scan, MRI.

5- Please provide us, if available, with reports of:

    – Recent Testing including where applicable, photography of the eye or retina
    – Ocular computerized tomography
    – Topography
    – A-Scans
    – B-Scan
    – Pachymetry
    – Fluorescein angiography
    – Electroretinography
    – Visual evoked potential testing
